With An Everlasting Love
Jeremiah is the prophet of the exile, and most of his book is loss. This chapter is the exception, and the verse is placed among people who have every reason to think the relationship is over.
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Everlasting runs in both directions. It has no start date, which means there was no point at which God began — no moment when you qualified, and therefore no moment when you could stop qualifying.
Therefore is the hinge. Because the love is everlasting, the drawing happens. The pull you feel toward God is downstream of a decision made before you existed.
And lovingkindness is the covenant word, the one used of loyal love that keeps its commitments when the other party has not.
Two verses later He is talking about vineyards being planted again. The love comes first; the rebuilding follows it.
It has no start date.So it has no conditions.
If God's love began at some point because of something, it could end at some point because of something.
Everlasting removes both ends of that sentence.

Read Jeremiah 31:1–4
1At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. 2Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest. 3The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. 4Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
