Jeremiah 4:17

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Cut down the trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression.”

Shares the theme of siege and judgment upon Jerusalem due to its sin.

““I am bringing a nation against you from far away, Israel,” declares the LORD. “It is an enduring nation, a nation whose language you do not know, whose speech you do not understand.”

Refers to the foreign nation (Babylon) that God will use to judge Judah.

“This is what the LORD says: “See, an army is coming from the land of the north; a great nation is being stirred up from the ends of the earth. They are armed with bows and spears; they are cruel and show no mercy. The sound of them is like the roaring sea, and they ride on horses; they come like warriors ready for battle to attack you, Daughter Zion.””

Describes the coming enemy from the north, a recurring theme in Jeremiah relating to judgment.

“Your country is desolate, your cities burned with fire; your fields are being stripped by foreigners right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers. Daughter Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a city under siege.”
