Isaiah 65:23

““No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands.”

Contextual verse; expands on the blessings of the new creation.

“then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.”

Contrast; this verse describes the opposite situation as a curse.

“You will be pledged to be married to a woman, but another will take her and ravish her. You will build a house, but you will not live in it. You will plant a vineyard, but you will not even begin to enjoy its fruit.”

Contrast; another curse involving fruitless labor.

“You will plant but not harvest; you will press olives but not use the oil, you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.”

Contrast; fruitless labor as judgement.

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.”

Shares concept of childbirth, though with a different emphasis on joy overcoming pain.

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.”
