Cross-References for 1 Kings 13:32

Josiah saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, and he had the bones removed from the tombs and burned on the altar to defile it, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by the man of God who announced these things. The king asked, “What is that tombstone I see?” The people of the city said, “It marks the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced against the altar of Bethel the very things you have done to it.” “Leave it alone,” he said. “Don’t let anyone disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, along with the bones of the prophet who had come from Samaria.

Fulfillment of the prophecy

He cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord: “Altar, altar! This is what the Lord says: ‘A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.’ ”

Context of the prophecy

In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his oldest son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua son of Nun.
