Courage When Nobody Notices
Verse twenty seven is one of the largest claims Jesus ever makes. All things are delivered unto me of my Father. Everything. Then, in the very next breath, he turns to the tired.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden. The one who holds all things uses that authority to call people who are worn out. He does not call the impressive. He calls the exhausted.
Labour is often unseen. The mother up at night with a feverish child. The man who supports three households from one salary and never mentions it. The quiet woman who stacks the chairs after every church meeting. Nobody notices. Jesus names them first.
And he describes himself in a way that makes it safe to come. I am meek and lowly in heart. He is not a harsh supervisor checking whether you have earned a break. The yoke he offers is shared, and the rest he promises reaches unto your souls, not only your shoulders.
If you are doing faithful work that no one sees, the most powerful person in this passage has seen it. Bring the tiredness to him today, on your break, on the bus home, before you sleep.
He holds all things. He calls the tired first.
The work nobody thanks you for is labour Jesus already sees.
Rest for your soul is offered by someone gentle, so you do not have to earn it.
Carry this today
What unseen labour do you need to bring to Jesus today?
Pray
Read Matthew 11:27–29
27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
