Joy Through an Open Door
Isaiah twelve is a song for in that day, the day of rescue. And in the middle of it is a working image: with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Drawing water is labour. Anyone who has fetched water from a borehole or a village well knows the rope, the weight, the walk home. Yet this is done with joy, because the well is full and it belongs to you.
And the wells are plural. Not one narrow opening but many. Salvation is not a door that barely opens. It is a whole field of wells, and you are invited to every one.
Notice what happens once the bucket is up. declare his doings among the people. The joy does not stay at the well. It walks out into the street. Someone who has drunk deeply wants to tell the neighbours where the water is.
If a door has opened for you this year, a job, a recovery, a reconciliation, do not just walk through it quietly. Tell someone at the table tonight what God did. Let your gladness point to the well.
Drawing water is work.It is glad work when the well is full.
The door God opens is meant to be talked about.
Go back to the well today, because it has not run dry.
Carry this today
Who could you tell this week about a door God has opened for you?
Pray
Read Isaiah 12:2–4
2Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. 3Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. 4And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
