Verse of the Day for August 27

The wise man in Jesus' story does not avoid the storm. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house. Every word of weather falls on the wise man's house first.

That is the honest answer to a question many believers carry quietly. If I obey, will I be spared? Jesus does not say so. The house on the rock is beaten by the same rain as any other. The difference is not the weather. It is what happens after: it fell not.

And the difference begins long before the clouds. The wise man is the one who heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them. Hearing alone is not the rock. The verse just before is sobering: some who did many things in his name hear the words I never knew you. Activity is not the same as obedience, nor the same as knowing him.

So the honest answer is both hard and kind. You will face storms. Doing what Jesus says will not prevent them. It will give you a foundation that holds while they last.

If the rain is falling on your house now, a diagnosis, a debt, a grief, do not assume you built badly. Check the foundation, yes. But remember the wise man got wet too.

A storm is not proof that you built on sand.
