Numbers 14:13

“Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people.”

Moses intercedes based on the reputation of God among the nations.

“otherwise, the country from which you brought us will say, ‘Because the Lord was not able to take them into the land he had promised them, and because he hated them, he brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’”

Similar concern for God's reputation among other nations.

“Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Show among the nations that you avenge the outpoured blood of your servants.”

The psalmist pleads for God to act so that the nations will know Him.

“Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?””

Mirrors the concern about the nations' perception of God's power.

“But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites by bringing them out of Egypt.”

God's actions are motivated by His concern for His own reputation.

“Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you have gone.”

God's actions are often driven by His desire to vindicate His name.
