Gratitude In the Waiting Room
The people in this part of Psalm 107 are lost in the desert. A few verses earlier they found no city to dwell in, and they were so hungry and thirsty that their soul fainted.
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Then God led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. Notice that the right way still went through the desert. He did not lift them out of it. He walked them along a road they could not see.
Waiting rooms feel like that. You are between the place you left and the place you hope to reach, and nothing tells you how long the corridor is.
Verse 9 is gentle with people in that spot. He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. It does not scold longing. It assumes you will feel it. Hunger is not a lack of faith. It is the space he means to fill.
If you are sitting in an actual waiting room today, on a plastic chair outside a consulting room or an embassy window, thank him for the right way, even before you can see the city. He has walked others through this desert. He knows where it ends.
The right way went through the desert. It still led to a city.
Longing is not unbelief, it is the hunger God means to fill.
You can give thanks for the road before you can see where it arrives.
Carry this today
What longing are you afraid to admit to God while you wait?
Pray
Read Psalm 107:7–9
