Purpose For What Comes Next
David does not say if trouble comes. He says Though I walk in the midst of trouble. In the midst. Not near it, not around it. Right in the middle, with trouble on every side.
The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
And yet he expects to be revived there. thou wilt revive me. Not after the trouble ends, but while he is still walking through it.
Then comes the line that closes this month well. The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me. Perfect here means complete, bring to its finish. Whatever concerns you, the half done, the not yet, the lain awake over, he will see through.
What is striking is the last sentence. Having just stated his confidence, David still prays forsake not the works of thine own hands. Confidence and pleading sit together. He is sure, and he still asks. That is not doubt. It is how children talk to a father they trust.
As you step into what comes next, a new month, a new school term, a move to another city, carry both. The certainty that he will complete what concerns you, and the freedom to keep asking him not to let go.
He will finish what concerns you.You may still ask him not to let go.
Trouble in the middle does not cancel mercy that lasts for ever.
You are the work of his hands, and he does not abandon his work.
Carry this today
What concern do you need to hand over for God to complete?

Read Psalm 138:7–8
7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. 8The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
