Courage Through an Open Door
Isaiah does not say if. He says When thou passest through the waters, and when thou walkest through the fire. The waters and the fire are assumed. They are part of the route.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
The other word that matters is through. Not around, not over, not instead of. God's people are not promised a path that avoids the river. They are promised that the rivers shall not overflow thee, and that he will be with them in the middle of it.
Before any of that, verse one gives the reason they can walk at all. I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Before the water, a name. The one going through the fire belongs to someone.
Sometimes the door that opens in front of you leads straight into deep water. A new country where you know no one. A promotion with responsibility that frightens you. A ministry you said yes to before you knew what it would cost. An open door does not mean the room beyond it is easy.
If you are standing at a threshold today, go through. Not because the waters are shallow, but because you are called by name and you belong to him. That is what Isaiah gave his people to carry into the river.
The door leads into water. The name goes through it with you.
An open door is not a promise of an easy room, but it is never a door you walk through alone.
You are called by name before you are asked to pass through anything.
Carry this today
What open door are you hesitating at because you can already see water on the other side?

Read Isaiah 43:1–3
1But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 2When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
