Joy At the Point of Decision
The first people to say it were outsiders. then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. The neighbours noticed before Israel did.
The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
Then Israel takes the words and makes them their own. The LORD hath done great things for us. Only one word changes. Them becomes us. It is a decision to stop watching your own story from the outside.
And straight after it, a request: Turn again our captivity, O LORD. The great things were real, but the return was not finished. Joy and unfinished business sat in the same song.
Decisions can feel that way. You stand between what God has already done and what you still need him to do, and the choice in front of you seems to depend on which of those you look at.
Before you decide, say the sentence with the right pronoun. Write it on a scrap of paper at your kitchen table. The Lord has done great things for me. Then make your choice from there, not from fear.
Them became us.Decide from there.
What others can see in your life, you are allowed to believe too.
Gratitude for what is done can steady you for what is not.
Carry this today
Can you say, with your own name in it, what great things God has already done for you?
Pray
Read Psalm 126:2–4
2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. 3The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.
