Wisdom For What Comes Next
The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable. James lists eight qualities, but he puts one of them first on purpose.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Pure comes before peaceable. That order protects us. Peace is easy to fake. We can keep things calm by avoiding the truth, by flattering, by going along with what is wrong. Heavenly wisdom will not buy peace with impurity. It is clean first, and then it makes peace.
The rest of the list is lovely: gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Easy to be intreated means open to reason, willing to be persuaded. Wisdom from above can change its mind.
The contrast in verse 16 is honest. Where envy and rivalry rule, there is confusion and every evil work. Many decisions go wrong not because people lack information but because envy is quietly steering.
This month has been about faithful choices. What comes next will need the same kind of wisdom, and James ends with a farmer's promise: the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. Sown, not harvested. Whatever you choose this week, in the shop, the meeting, the family gathering, sow it cleanly and peacefully. The fruit comes later.
Peace bought with compromise spoils.Peace sown in purity bears fruit.
Ask first whether a choice is pure. Then ask whether it is peaceable.
What you sow in peace today, someone will eat from later.
Carry this today
Is there a peace you are keeping that is not pure?

Read James 3:16–18
16For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
