Wisdom After the Excitement Fades
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul. The degree is finished, the house is bought, the baby is home. For a while the sweetness carries you.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Then the excitement fades, as it always does, and ordinary life resumes. What shapes you now is not the achievement but the company. The next verse makes that turn: He that walketh with wise men shall be wise.
Walketh is a slow word. It is not about one dramatic meeting with a mentor. It is about whose pace you match over months, whose jokes you laugh at, whose habits rub off on you without your noticing.
The warning is serious: a companion of fools shall be destroyed. Rarely in a day. Usually by small agreements, an evening here, a shrug at sin there, until the drift has carried you a long way from where you began.
When the celebration is over, look at who is walking beside you. The friends from the old season may still be the right ones, or they may not. Find a wiser person and ask to share a lunch break or a walk after church. Sweet moments pass. Companions stay.
The sweetness of arrival fades. The company you keep does not.
Your friendships are quietly writing the next chapter of your life.
Walk a little way with someone wiser today.
Carry this today
Whose pace have you been matching since the last big season of your life ended?

Read Proverbs 13:19–21
19The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. 21Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
